| Based in the vicinity of M1 Junction 27 The East Midlands Special Operations Unit (EMSOU) is a collaboration between the five Forces in the East Midlands region (Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire and Nottinghamshire). The Unit works exclusively on serious and organised crime, focussing on firearms criminality, drug trafficking, money laundering and other types of organised crime. We currently have a vacancy for an Intelligence/RIPA Officer to join the Regional Intelligence Unit, which is responsible for the development of intelligence to support the regional tasking and co-ordination process, as well as to provide the foundation for all operational activity undertaken by the EMSOU. The HQ site for the Unit is to be located in the vicinity of Junction 27 of the M1 from autumn 2008, but initially it will be located off junction 22 of the M1. There are also satellite offices located in the north and south of the region. In recognition of the geographic size of the region as well as the dynamic nature of the work involved, the Unit will adopt the most flexible possible approach to working arrangements. The arrangements will be cognisant of, and compliant with employment legislation. The Job To act as a point of advice and expertise in the application of RIPA and the Police Act 1997 to covert policing operations. To undertake the role of applicant for all RIPA and Telephone activity undertaken by the EMSOU. It is essential that applicants: Are educated to A level Grade C in English Language and Maths OR demonstrate experience of using English Language and Maths to that standard; Demonstrate by example experience of conducting reactive and proactive investigations and display a sound awareness of information and evidence gathering techniques; Demonstrate by example recent experience of researching, developing and producing high quality intelligence reports that have supported subsequent operational activity; Demonstrate by example a positive approach to partnership working; Demonstrate by example a working knowledge of the NIM and the value of intelligence in focusing operational activity; Demonstrate a good understanding of legislation and procedure associated with the investigation of serious and organised crime i.e. RIPA, PACE, CPIA, POCA; Demonstrate an ability to communicate effectively at all levels both verbally and in writing; Demonstrate an ability to work with limited supervision, planning and prioritising own workload and making multi-factor decisions within agreed policy; Demonstrate experience of working in a confidential and sensitive environment; Have a flexible approach to working hours, and be willing to react to duty changes at short notice; Demonstrate by example a high degree of self-motivation; Demonstrate the ability to work effectively under pressure (for example to provide accurate and relevant support to officers dealing with time critical live incidents); Demonstrate respect for race and diversity, and the acknowledgement of other people's views; Demonstrate the ability to interrogate both open and closed intelligence sources; Demonstrate the ability to adapt to a rapidly changing technological and legal environment; Demonstrate a comprehensive working knowledge of IT software including Microsoft Word, Excel and databases such as Access. **Please click applybutton below to be taken to an on-line application form** |
